[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] A 26,000㎡ vacant land in Gungse Complex in Gungse-dong, Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, will be redeveloped after more than 10 years.
Yongin City announced on the 28th that it recently established a district unit plan for 5% of the complex area (26,000㎡), which has been left vacant for 10 years since 2011 due to the local tax arrears of the project implementer, after being designated as Gungse Complex (525,880㎡) by Gyeonggi-do in 1999 under the 'Act on Balanced Regional Development and Promotion of Local Small and Medium Enterprises.'
Until 2014, 95% (495,000㎡) of the entire project site of Gungse Complex received completion permits, and apartments and commercial facilities were built, but some vacant lands were left unattended, causing landscape damage and flooding during the rainy season.
Since the related law that was the basis for designating Gungse Complex was abolished in 2016, leaving no legal grounds for managing the complex, Yongin City recently established the Gungse District unit plan in consultation with Gyeonggi-do and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
With development now possible on the uncompleted sites, landowners agreed with Yongin City to donate one small park to the city and to improve three roads and one public open space within the site.
A Yongin City official said, "The Gungse District, which was in a legal blind spot, can now be systematically managed through the district unit plan," adding, "Residents within the district are expected to use the small park and improved roads more comfortably and safely."
