[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) announced that it will hold the ‘2021 Jungnang Book Festival’ on October 16 to celebrate the autumn reading season.

The ‘Jungnang Book Festival,’ held every October, is recognized as the district’s representative reading festival along with the Gyeomjae Book Street Festival held in spring, offering a variety of reading programs each year.

First, at 11 a.m. on the day, a lecture by author Kang Won-guk, who wrote ‘Speaking Like an Adult’ and ‘The President’s Writing,’ will be held at Jungnang-gu Office.

From September 27 to October 1, 40 participants for on-site attendance will be recruited through the district’s website, and participation is also possible via real-time streaming on the district’s YouTube channel.

At 3 p.m., the ‘Online Children’s Reading Golden Bell’ will take place. One hundred lower-grade elementary school children will read 10 selected books and compete in quizzes to test their reading skills.

The event will be conducted through the district’s YouTube channel, and applications will be accepted from September 30 to October 13.

Additionally, various programs will be held at Bonghwasan Neighborhood Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. At the ‘2113 Book Exchange,’ any resident can bring two used books and receive one book from the prepared collection. Participants can exchange up to three books per person, including children’s books and bestsellers, so high participation is expected.

Moreover, the Jungnang-gu Public Library booth will feature a curation exhibition and upcycling experience under the theme ‘Again, Earth.’ However, the author lecture and the Jungnang-gu Public Library experience booth may be changed to non-face-to-face formats depending on the COVID-19 social distancing level.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “Although we maintain social distancing due to COVID-19, I hope people do not distance themselves from reading,” adding, “I hope this year’s Jungnang Book Festival will be a warm comfort to residents overcoming difficult times.”
