[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] It has been revealed that reports of violations of COVID-19 quarantine rules submitted through the Safe Report Center have reached over 220,000 cases.
According to data submitted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to Oh Young-hwan, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, the total number of 'COVID-19 reports' through the Safe Report Center is 222,609. The number of reports, which was 64,283 in the second half of last year (July to December), more than doubled to 158,326 in the first half of this year (January to July).
The periods with the highest number of reports since the 'COVID-19 Safety Report' was launched on July 6 last year were December last year (31,314 cases) and January this year (33,863 cases), coinciding with the spread of the third wave.
The regions with the most reports were Gyeonggi (59,177 cases), Seoul (58,791 cases), and Busan (14,506 cases), while the region with the fewest reports was Sejong (3,122 cases).
Meanwhile, the number of people convicted in the first trial for violating the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act was confirmed to be 420 last year and 634 from January to June this year, totaling 1,054. Among them, 822 were sentenced to fines or other property penalties.
Representative Oh said, "More thorough compliance with quarantine guidelines is necessary for a return to normal life."
