[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] As Typhoon No. 14 ‘Chantu’ approaches and a typhoon advisory has been issued for the local sea area, a drunken woman in her 50s fell into the water at Gukdong Port Waterfront Park in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, and was rescued by the Yeosu Coast Guard.

According to the Yeosu Coast Guard, at around 4:35 a.m. on the 17th, after receiving a report from a nearby angler who heard a woman shouting for help in the sea at Gukdong Port Waterfront Park in Yeosu City, a patrol car and rescue team from the police substation were dispatched. The drowning victim, Ms. A (52 years old, female), was safely rescued within 3 minutes of the report and handed over to the waiting 119 emergency medical team, then transported to a nearby hospital.

The rescued Ms. A showed no health abnormalities except for mild hypothermia and was in a state of intoxication severe enough to be unable to communicate.

It is presumed that the drowning victim Ms. A slipped and fell into the sea while intoxicated.

Meanwhile, on the 5th, a man in his 60s fishing at Gukdong Port Waterfront Park also lost his balance and fell into the sea while cleaning the fish he caught and was rescued.

A Yeosu Coast Guard official said, “Since the risk of falling into the sea around the harbor is high during nighttime, tourists and anglers must be especially careful as failure to do so may result in falling into the sea.”
