[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Gwangju University (President Kim Hyuk-jong) announced on the 14th that it will hold the "2nd National High School Student Web Novel Contest."
Submissions for this web novel contest will be accepted until November 30, and the title should include the phrase "Web Novel Entry" before sending it to the official email of the Department of Creative Writing at Gwangju University. The winners will be announced on December 24.
The contest accepts web novel entries regardless of genre, including fantasy, romance, martial arts, and SF, and any currently enrolled high school student nationwide can participate.
The work length requirements are a synopsis (overall plot of at least 5,000 characters) in any format, and at least three serialized installments (each installment at least 5,000 characters).
The grand prize winner will receive the Gwangju University President’s Award, a scholarship of 2 million KRW, and a plaque. Two runners-up will each receive a scholarship of 1 million KRW and a plaque, and two third-place winners will each receive a scholarship of 500,000 KRW and a plaque.
In particular, if the winners enroll in the Department of Creative Writing at Gwangju University, scholarships will be provided for two years (one year for runners-up and third-place winners), and participating students may sign a writer contract with Kidari Studio Co., Ltd. after separate consultations.
Last year, the "1st Gwangju University High School Student Web Novel Contest," held for the first time in Korea to provide a platform for high school students aspiring to be web novel and genre literature writers, received about 30 works filled with fresh ideas and imagination.
The grand prize was awarded to Yoo Yumin from Suwon Changhyeon High School for "Editor Authority Proxy." The runners-up were Woo Ah-young for "Lifetime Contract, Termination" and Kim Na-young for "Family Maker," and the third-place winners were Libitina (Bileomeok-eul Return) and Park Seung-bin (Soul Game).
Professor Lee Ki-ho of the Department of Creative Writing at Gwangju University said, "There has never been a web novel contest for high school students until now, but through this opportunity, we can expect good works from students."
