[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] On the 13th, Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Han-jung, who was recommended to leave the party due to allegations of real estate speculation raised in an investigation by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, stated that "Although it is belated, I have been freed from the shackles of suspicion" after the police cleared him of charges.

On the same day, Kim said through his SNS, "I will work even harder for the local residents who trusted and supported me," adding, "I will devote myself to the party's victory in the presidential election."

In June, Kim's wife was suspected of real estate speculation involving the acquisition of land, name-trust, and misuse of official secrets, which the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission referred for investigation. However, the police who received the investigation request concluded the case with a 'no charges' disposition and ended all investigations.

Earlier, in June, Kim was recommended to leave the party by the party leadership due to real estate speculation allegations raised in the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission's investigation, but he opposed the party's action as unfair and demanded the decision be withdrawn. The party leadership urged 12 lawmakers under suspicion in the commission's investigation to voluntarily leave the party, but took no further action against the five, including Kim, who refused to leave.
