[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] SK Innovation is participating in the K-Green practice in daily life, a coalition of private, public, and corporate sectors in the Ulsan region working together to protect the Earth from plastic.

On the 13th, SK Innovation took part in the launch ceremony of the ‘Sanhaejinmi (山海珍美) Resource Recycling Plogging’ at the permanent outdoor stage in Daewangam Park, together with Ulsan City, the Green Leader Ulsan Council, Dong-gu Volunteer Center, Ulsan Social Welfare Center Association, Ulsan Community Chest of Korea, and Usisan, representing private, public, and corporate sectors.

At the launch ceremony, there will be introductions to plogging and recycling projects, donation presentations, a bottle cap collection performance, and plogging experiences. Prior to the ceremony, the participating parties will sign a ‘Memorandum of Understanding for Responding to the Climate Crisis and Realizing a Carbon-Neutral Society.’

According to the agreement, Ulsan City will support the installation of bottle cap collection boxes within administrative offices and encourage participation by public officials. The Green Leader Council will support members’ plogging activities and the delivery of recyclables such as bottle caps, while the Dong-gu Volunteer Center will organize and participate in plogging activities. The Ulsan Social Welfare Center Association will install bottle cap collection boxes in private facilities and provide recycled flowerpot sets. The Ulsan Community Chest of Korea will allocate project funds and provide administrative support, and Usisan will be responsible for producing recycled flowerpots.

In particular, SK Innovation’s Ulsan Complex (Ulsan CLX) will support the Green Leader Ulsan Council with a donation of 35 million KRW to promote plogging and recycling activities, and its members plan to participate directly in plogging activities.

Plogging will be conducted three times until November (1st at Daewangam Park, 2nd at Lotte Department Store Plaza, 3rd at Taehwagang National Garden), following the experience event on the day. Corporate and citizen volunteers will participate in campaigns to reduce plastic use and improve awareness of waste separation in response to the climate crisis.

Additionally, from September to November, a resource recycling campaign will be held throughout Ulsan to encourage citizens to collect PET bottle caps. The collected caps will be used to produce recycled flowerpots, which will be distributed to 1,000 low-income households in the area.
