[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] In the Democratic Party's regional primary for the presidential election, Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung's cumulative vote share exceeded 50%, leaving former leader Lee Nak-yeon far behind by nearly double the score.

After his defeat in the Chungcheong region, former leader Lee Nak-yeon played the "resignation from the National Assembly" card as a last resort, but in the Daegu·Gyeongbuk region primary held on the 11th, Governor Lee's vote share again exceeded the majority, marking his third consecutive win.

In the Democratic Party's Daegu·Gyeongbuk regional presidential primary vote results that day, Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung secured 51.12% of the votes, taking first place. The cumulative vote share, including the votes from Daejeon·Chungnam and Sejong·Chungbuk held on the 4th and 5th, was 53.88%.

Former leader Lee Nak-yeon received 27.98%, ranking second. His cumulative vote share was 28.14%, trailing Governor Lee by 25.74 percentage points.

Former Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae recorded 14.84% of the votes in the Daegu·Gyeongbuk region, significantly ahead of former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun, who received 3.60%. Their cumulative vote shares were 8.69% for Chu and 6.24% for Chung.

Assemblyman Park Yong-jin received 1.17% in Daegu·Gyeongbuk and 2.09% cumulatively, while Assemblyman Kim Du-kwan recorded 1.29% in Daegu·Gyeongbuk and 0.97% cumulatively.

After the vote count, Governor Lee met with reporters and said, "I think what we do from now on is important," expressing his determination for the first Super Week scheduled for tomorrow by saying, "I will do my best with expectations."

The Democratic Party will reveal the voting results from the Gangwon region, with 16,293 voters, and the first batch of votes from 641,922 national and general party members on the 12th. Including the already completed Chungcheong region, the cumulative voting results of about 750,000 people will be announced.

When the third round of applications closes on the 14th, the total electorate is expected to be around 2.2 million, meaning that about one-third of the electorate's voting results will be released on that day.

If a particular candidate gains an overwhelming majority of votes on this day, it will be difficult to overturn this in the subsequent primaries. For former leader Lee Nak-yeon, he must narrow the gap and push the race to a runoff if no candidate achieves a majority, then try to rally the support of eliminated candidates to stage a comeback.
