[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Jeju police are intensifying crackdowns on repetitive and chronic violence in daily life surroundings.

According to Jeju Police Agency on the 7th, Jeju Western Police Station arrested A (56) yesterday for repeatedly dining and dashing and obstructing business at restaurants.

A was caught red-handed for dining and dashing at a restaurant in Yongdam-dong, Jeju City on the 21st of last month and released, but is accused of dining and dashing again on the 23rd of the same month and disturbing business at a nearby lodging facility.

Earlier, on the 5th, Jeju Eastern Police Station also arrested B (52) for obstructing business and dining and dashing seven times at convenience stores and pubs.

B was caught red-handed on the 3rd at a convenience store in Ildo 2-dong, Jeju City, for loudly cursing customers and breaking liquor bottles, thereby obstructing business.

The police reviewed investigation records and 112 emergency call logs related to B and confirmed that although there were seven 112 reports since March, only two cases were processed. For the remaining five cases, they secured victim statements from reporters who had not testified due to fear of retaliation.

A Jeju police official stated, “Violent crimes in daily life surroundings threaten the peaceful daily lives and legal order of the public, so we plan to carry out strong crackdowns on chronic violent crimes in daily life surroundings,” and urged, “If you witness or know of any victimization around you, please actively report and provide information.”
