The 5th World Smart City Expo (WSCE 2021), the largest smart city international event in the Asia-Pacific region, hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Science and ICT, and organized by Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), Korea Water Resources Corporation, and KINTEX, will be held from the 8th to the 10th at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
WSCE 2021 is an international event where domestic and international urban experts, companies, international organizations, and the public share policies and technologies related to smart cities and discuss the vision and values of cities. This event is themed "Smart City, Becoming Reality."
The opening ceremony will begin with congratulatory speeches from Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, Chairman Lee Heon-seung of the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, and congratulatory messages from overseas dignitaries such as Gainer Alvarado Lopez, Minister of Housing, Construction and Sanitation of Peru, and Galina Stoyanova, Mayor of Kazanluk, Bulgaria.
Keith Strier, Vice President of Global AI at NVIDIA, will deliver the keynote speech on the theme "A New Frontier of Urban Innovation." At the conference, over 150 experts including Frank Weerwind, Mayor of Almere, Netherlands, and Karin Rolland, CEO of Plug Power, will discuss the latest global agendas.
Various experiences will also be available at the venue. At the "Smart Challenge Pavilion," local governments and companies will showcase their challenges to solve urban parking, safety, and traffic issues using advanced technologies. At the "National Pilot City Pavilion," visitors can check the progress of Korea’s smart city model, the Smart City National Pilot Cities (Sejong and Busan).
Kim Heung-jin, Director of the Land and Urban Office at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "This expo is a world-class event introducing Korea’s advanced smart city technologies and policies," adding, "It will be an opportunity to experience how smart city technologies can provide a safe and convenient life."
Anyone interested in smart cities can participate in WSCE 2021. Due to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines, prior registration is required.
