[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Samsung, which has pledged to hire 40,000 people by 2023, was selected as the most desired group to work for by university students and job seekers.
On the 29th, job portal JobKorea conducted a survey of 692 students from four-year universities and job seekers nationwide on the "most desired group to work for" and announced the results. Samsung received 45.4% of the respondents' votes, ranking first overall. Following Samsung were Kakao (42.6%), Naver (25.6%), CJ (20.4%), Shinsegae (15.0%), and Nexon (12.9%), forming the top ranks.
Among male respondents, 49.4% chose Samsung as the most desired company to work for. Among female respondents, Samsung ranked second (42.2%) following Kakao (44.0%). By major, Samsung had the highest employment preference among students majoring in business administration (48.2%), humanities and social sciences (47.3%), and arts and physical education (50.8%).
Samsung recently announced a future preparation plan for the post-COVID-19 era, presenting a blueprint to invest 240 trillion won over three years in strategic businesses such as semiconductors and bio, and to directly hire 40,000 people. The number of hires is 10,000 more than the usual three-year standard of 30,000. This is interpreted as a commitment to contribute to solving current issues such as employment, given the government’s emphasis on revitalizing the domestic economy in connection with the parole of Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong.
Additionally, Samsung is currently the only one among the four major groups to maintain open recruitment for new employees, and it announced plans to continue this system for major affiliates including Samsung Electronics to ensure stability and predictability in the domestic hiring market.
A JobKorea official explained, "Although internet companies have shown strong employment preference every year, Samsung shows the highest employment preference among group companies," adding, "This is likely influenced by Samsung being the only group to maintain open recruitment and announcing plans to directly hire 40,000 people within three years."
