[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] As Typhoon Omais passes, a low-pressure system approaching from the West Sea will bring heavy rain nationwide on Tuesday, the 24th. The central and southern regions will experience rainfall exceeding 70mm per hour.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) forecasted that from morning to afternoon, very heavy rain accompanied by gusts and thunder/lightning will fall at a rate of 50 to 70mm per hour, mainly in the southern regions, Chungcheong area, and Jeju Island. The Jeolla region and Gyeongnam region will receive over 200mm, and the central region will see up to about 150mm of heavy rain.

Rainfall from the 23rd until 4 a.m. on this day was ▲40 to 180mm along the southern coast of Gyeongnam and Jeonnam ▲30 to 100mm in Chungcheong, Jeonbuk, Gyeongbuk regions, and mountainous areas of Jeju ▲5 to 80mm in the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon Province, Jeonnam region, and Jeju Island.

Adding today's expected rainfall, the cumulative precipitation near the southern coast and Jirisan area will approach a maximum of 400mm. The southern regions and Jeju Island will receive 100 to 300mm, the central region, the five West Sea islands, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo up to 150mm, with some places exceeding 200mm.

The KMA urged, "Since heavy rain has already fallen since the weekend and strong rain continues, there is concern about damage such as landslides, retaining wall collapses, and falling rocks. Please exercise special caution."

Typhoon No. 12 Omais moved northeastward over the sea southwest of Ulleungdo and transformed into an extratropical cyclone around 6 a.m. that day. Omais made landfall near Goseong, Gyeongnam around 11:50 p.m. the previous day, bringing heavy rain to the inland areas of Gyeongsang Province.
