[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The camp of former Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Nak-yeon dismissed the controversy over the ‘pro-Lee Jae-myung YouTuber targeting document’ as “a document created in the course of routine work.”
On the 19th, Lee’s camp, Pil-yeon Camp, stated, “It has been confirmed that the document was created by a person in charge of YouTube monitoring at Lee Nak-yeon’s camp as part of routine work,” adding, “Looking at the reported content, the monitoring was centered on candidate Lee, categorizing simply into ‘support’ and ‘oppose,’ and this document was leaked through an unknown channel.”
Previously, some media outlets reported that Lee’s camp had prepared an eight-page document titled ‘The Reality of YouTube Broadcasts Leading the Defamation of Candidate Lee Nak-yeon.’ In particular, the document reportedly included content such as “These YouTubers are connected to Gyeonggi Province’s ‘Gyeonggi Prosperity Show,’ receiving large appearance fees or support through advertising contracts like basic income, while conducting broadcasts defaming former Lee and supporting Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung.”
In response to this controversy, the YouTubers and online media involved issued a joint statement saying, “We are appalled by the Lee Nak-yeon-originated blacklist.” On the same day, operators of Gobal News TV, Open Sympathy TV, Kim Yong-min TV, Saenal TV, Sisa Tapa TV, and Lee Dong-hyung TV said, “The Lee Nak-yeon camp singled us out with a prejudgment that we are unfriendly to them and produced a malicious document analyzing our broadcast content and tendencies,” urging, “Candidate Lee Nak-yeon must apologize directly and promise to prevent recurrence.”
They added, “Most of the mentioned media have never received advertising from Gyeonggi Province or any public institution,” and said, “The Lee Nak-yeon camp must discard the malicious document, disclose the circumstances of its creation, and immediately dismiss those responsible. If our demands are not met, we will initiate legal action against Lee Nak-yeon’s campaign.”
Lee’s camp stated, “We will take more meticulous care at the camp level to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.”
