[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will secure 399 hospital beds for COVID-19 patient treatment by the 27th of this month.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 17th that, following the government's administrative order principle to operate beds within two weeks, a total of 765 beds will be secured in the metropolitan area by the 27th, including 171 beds dedicated to severe patients and 594 beds for moderate patients. Among these, Gyeonggi Province plans to secure a total of 399 beds, including 55 beds dedicated to severe patients and 344 beds for moderate patients.
Earlier, on the 13th, Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung attended the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters meeting on COVID-19 response chaired by Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, stating, "I was going to propose an administrative order to secure beds, and it seems some of it has been accepted," and requested, "Please provide additional operational personnel for infectious disease dedicated beds (extension of existing long-term dispatched personnel and additional dispatch)."
Meanwhile, as of midnight on the 17th, the total number of confirmed cases in Gyeonggi Province increased by 385 from the previous day to 63,768. As of the 16th, 2,063 confirmed cases of Delta variant infection have been identified in Gyeonggi Province, and including epidemiological links, the total is 4,035. The detection rate of the Delta variant in the metropolitan area in the second week of August was 84.2%, an increase of 13.1 percentage points compared to the previous week (71.1%).
