Japan Reports 18,822 New COVID-19 Cases... Tokyo Declares "Out of Control Situation"

According to local public broadcaster NHK on the 12th, 18,822 new COVID-19 cases were identified in Japan by 6:50 PM that day.

As a result, Japan's cumulative confirmed cases rose to 1,090,224.

The death toll increased by 24, reaching 15,372.

Japan's daily new cases set a record high for the second consecutive day following the previous day.

In the past week, confirmed cases increased by 103,136.

Among the 47 prefectures nationwide, 20 regions broke their record for the highest number of new cases that day.

In the capital Tokyo Metropolis, 4,989 new cases were reported in one day.

Following 4,200 cases the previous day, the number exceeded 4,000 for two consecutive days.

At a monitoring meeting held with experts to analyze the COVID-19 spread situation in Tokyo Metropolis, the analysis stated that "the infection is spreading at an unprecedented speed, making it uncontrollable, and it is an emergency situation where the infection is raging at a disaster level."
