[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] KT&G announced on the 10th that it has succeeded in launching the heated tobacco product ‘lil’ worldwide in 10 countries through global collaboration with Philip Morris International (PMI). This achievement was made one year after first introducing ‘lil’ in Russia in August last year.
KT&G and PMI signed a product supply agreement last year for the overseas sales of the heated tobacco product ‘lil’ and first launched ‘lil Solid 1.0’ in Russia and Ukraine. They also released ‘lil Hybrid 2.0’ in Japan.
This year, they are focusing on the new product ‘lil Solid 2.0’ to target new markets. In addition to introducing this product in the existing markets of Russia and Ukraine, they have expanded overseas sales channels to Southeastern Europe and Central Asia, including Kazakhstan, Serbia, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Uzbekistan, and North Macedonia.
On the 9th (local time), they launched ‘lil Solid 2.0’ and the dedicated stick ‘Fit’ in Albania for the tenth time, achieving entry into 10 countries.
‘lil Solid 2.0’ is the second-generation heated tobacco model introduced by KT&G earlier this year. It features upgraded battery efficiency and induction heating technology. Overseas, two colors, ‘Stone Gray’ and ‘Cosmic Blue,’ are sold. The dedicated sticks come in a total of seven types, including ‘Fit Regular,’ ‘Fit Regular Sky,’ and ‘Fit Marine,’ with 3 to 4 types released per country according to local market conditions, receiving positive responses from local consumers.
Im Wang-seop, head of KT&G’s NGP Business Division, said, “Achieving entry into 10 countries within a year based on the innovative technology of ‘lil’ and PMI’s market expansion capabilities is a great accomplishment,” and added, “We will continue to provide various choices to consumers in overseas markets through strategic collaboration with PMI.”
