Hamyang-gun, Proactive Response to COVID-19 Leads to Decrease in Confirmed Cases

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hamyang-gun recorded a daily new confirmed case count in the 30s for 10 days starting from July 20, leading to the unavoidable implementation of the highest level 4 social distancing measures for 9 days from the 31st of last month.

Along with the enforcement of level 4 quarantine rules, special quarantine measures were implemented, including recommending COVID-19 testing for all residents. Strengthened inspections of multi-use facilities were conducted through a department responsibility system (27 departments, 133 teams, 264 personnel), and intensive disinfection activities were carried out at 122 locations visited by confirmed cases.

Additionally, from July 20 to August 8, screening clinics were set up at four locations: the town office, Hamyang Elementary School, Wiseong Elementary School, and Anui Elementary School. A total of approximately 8,800 people, including kindergarteners, students, and the general public, were tested. Thirty-nine confirmed cases were transferred to treatment facilities, and 420 close contacts were placed under self-quarantine and other measures.

The number of new confirmed cases noticeably decreased, and after consultation with the province, it was decided to lower the social distancing level to level 3 starting August 9.

Seo Chun-su, the mayor of Hamyang-gun, stated, “I thank all residents who participated in quarantine efforts despite the heat to break the chain of COVID-19 infections in the region. As confirmed cases continue to occur, I earnestly urge everyone to comply with social distancing measures.”
