[Jindo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] In Jindo, Jeollanam-do, 10 additional COVID-19 cases (Jindo cases 13 to 22) were confirmed over two days, putting quarantine authorities on high alert.
According to the county on the 6th, after three residents of Jindo-eup and one resident of Gunnae-myeon tested positive for COVID-19 on the morning of the 4th, six more infections were confirmed between the 5th and the morning of the 6th.
In Jindo, multiple confirmed cases have emerged for the first time in two months since the 12th case was reported on June 9, prompting quarantine authorities to remain vigilant.
The 13th confirmed case in Jindo (Jeonnam case 2078), Mr. A, began showing COVID-19 symptoms such as coughing on the 2nd, got tested at a screening clinic, and received a positive result around 9 a.m. on the 4th.
Mr. A is the owner of a well-known local cafe. Quarantine authorities launched an epidemiological investigation focusing on close contacts among customers who visited the cafe, identifying three confirmed cases on the 4th and six more on the 5th and 6th.
The source of infection remains unclear. It was confirmed that some individuals who tested positive after Mr. A had earlier COVID-19 symptoms, making it difficult to trace the infection route.
The county health center conducted COVID-19 tests on about 700 people, including customers who visited the cafe from the 31st of last month to the 4th and those who had additional contact with them.
Furthermore, to break the ongoing chain of infections, they requested support from the epidemiological investigation team of Jeollanam-do to conduct a wide-ranging epidemiological investigation.
Along with this, all events and programs at the small movie theater, Saturday folk performances, senior centers, the Nonghyup-sponsored gratitude event, welfare centers for the disabled and elderly, village senior centers, and various sports facilities have been suspended.
The county Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters issued an urgent statement on the 6th, urging residents with cold symptoms or those who recently visited the metropolitan area or other regions, or had contact with residents from other areas, to visit the health center screening clinics for testing.
