[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station (Chief Song Seonghun) announced on the 2nd that it is operating firefighting drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) independently to enhance the efficiency of various firefighting field activities.
The firefighting drones are being utilized in various ways, including ▲effective on-site command in wide disaster areas ▲support for water-related and mountain accident sites with high risk and difficult accessibility ▲and other training support.
On the 31st of last month, drones were used to inspect the site of a fire at a house in Songchon-dong, Gwangsan-gu, for monitoring remaining flames, checking for fire spread, and assessing damage to the roof and solar power facilities.
Kim Jaeha, the field response team leader, said, “We will strive to ensure three-dimensional observation of disaster sites and the safety of field personnel through active use of drones.”
