The Korea National Arboretum Management Office, National Sejong Arboretum (Director Lee Yumi), has actively supported the '2021 Arboretum and Garden Green Contest.'
The Green Contest is a non-face-to-face competition planned to provide opportunities for citizens, exhausted mentally and physically due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, to experience forest culture services and heal at 121 national, public, and private arboretums and gardens nationwide. The contest runs until September 3.
The contest categories include a 'Drawing Contest' (for preschool, elementary, middle, and high school students) themed 'The Image of Arboretums and Gardens I Imagine,' and a 'Mobile Photo Contest' (open to all citizens) themed 'All Photos That Can Be Taken at Arboretums and Gardens.'
National Sejong Arboretum is one of the three major base arboretums for the contest venues, expanding opportunities for visitors to participate directly in the contest.
At the newly established Pollinate Garden within the arboretum, visitors can encounter various insects such as bees, tiger swallowtails, and long-tailed skippers. Through extended weekend operations until August 8 (Saturday/Sunday), visitors can avoid the heat by enjoying the Four Seasons Greenhouse and various exhibition gardens in the evening and capture photos. (Weekend extended operation period and hours: 7.17.(Sat) ~ 8.8.(Sun), Sat/Sun (weekends) 09:00 ~ 20:00 - last admission at 19:00)
For those wishing to participate in the separately held special award category, 1.5-meter-tall Eobuba character sculptures and dolls have been placed throughout the arboretum. The special award category requires uploading photos taken with the Shinhan Credit Union (official sponsor)'s 'Eobuba Character Doll' within the arboretum or garden to the contest website. Previously, 1,500 dolls were shipped on a first-come, first-served basis through the contest website, but inquiries continued from those unable to participate due to the lack of dolls.
In response, National Sejong Arboretum installed Eobuba character sculptures and dolls within the arboretum to enable various photo shooting setups. The sculptures will be periodically relocated to various locations such as the visitor center entrance, the Four Seasons Greenhouse, and exhibition gardens to provide photo-taking enjoyment and serve as photo zones.
Gu Bon-kwang, Planning and General Affairs Team Leader of National Sejong Arboretum, who planned the 2021 Green Contest, said, "We hope everyone visiting the arboretum during these difficult times will have a joyful time and create precious memories, and we encourage many citizens to participate in the non-face-to-face contest."
