[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Lotte Department Store announced on the 25th that starting from the 28th, it will collaborate with famous dessert shops nationwide, popular on SNS, to present an 'Online Dessert Special Exhibition.'

Lotte Department Store stated that with the increase in 'stay-at-home' life due to COVID-19 and the heatwave, customer demand for purchasing desserts online is rising. This is because customers can comfortably and safely enjoy desserts from famous shops nationwide at home without having to visit distant locations or wait in line.

In the first half of this year, online dessert sales at Lotte Department Store grew 95% compared to the same period last year. In July (1st to 22nd), combined with the heatwave, sales surged 108%.

Ahead of the peak summer vacation season, Lotte Department Store will hold an 'Online Dessert Special Exhibition' on LotteON from July 28 to August 6 for the 'home-cation' crowd spending their vacations at home. This special exhibition features 10 popular menu items at discounted prices in limited quantities from carefully selected famous dessert shops nationwide, including 'Chuncheon Gamjabat' in Chuncheon, Gangwon, 'Naricomo' in Daegu, and 'Doje Bread' in Pangyo, Gyeonggi.

‘Chuncheon Gamjabat,’ operated directly by young farmers and known nationwide for sparking a 'potato bread' craze, will offer its signature 'Potato Bread' as well as the recently popular 'Corn Bread,' known for its crunchy corn texture. Additionally, customers who purchase over 40,000 KRW during the 'Dessert Special Exhibition' can apply to earn up to 5% L.POINT rewards.

Meanwhile, considering that 41% of online dessert sales in the first half of this year were made by the MZ generation, the special exhibition will be promoted through the YouTube channel 'Hauteur the day.' 'Hauteur' is a YouTube web variety show newly launched by Lotte Department Store in February targeting the MZ generation. Featuring Chuu from LOONA as the main character, it uses a princess concept sub-character and depicts her completing various missions to earn the title of 'Hauteur' princess, releasing new episodes every Wednesday. In the episodes released on July 28 and August 4, Chuu will personally taste and review the desserts sold in the special exhibition.

Choi Hyungmo, head of Lotte Department Store’s F&B team, said, "As the prolonged difficulty of going out due to COVID-19 and the heatwave continues, we are striving to attract famous restaurants not only offline but also online." He added, "We hope this dessert special exhibition will bring some sweet comfort to customers who cannot travel far for their vacations."
