[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Geoje City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 21st that it visited fish farms to check the preparedness of response equipment to prevent damage to aquaculture organisms caused by red tides and high water temperatures during the summer season.
The inspection involved providing guidance on managing cultured organisms, such as early harvesting and adjusting stocking density of aquaculture species like rockfish and filefish, which are expected to be at risk as the water temperature in the local sea areas gradually rises.
Since April, the city has supplied fishermen with equipment such as oxygen supply devices and liquefied oxygen tanks, as well as immune boosters and vaccines to prevent aquatic animal diseases to enhance the immunity of fish, aiming for zero natural disaster damage.
In addition, in preparation for red tide occurrences, the city is securing loess for red tide control and preparing public equipment such as loess spreading fleets and vessels.
A Geoje City official said, "It is best if natural disasters do not occur, but if they do, we will do our best to work together to minimize damage."
