[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) and Bomunsa Temple (Chief Monk Intae) located in Bomun-dong have joined hands to establish a district-run senior welfare center.

Seongbuk-gu and the Korean Buddhist Bomun Order Bomunsa Temple announced on the 12th that they signed a business agreement for the establishment and operation of the district-run senior welfare center. To set an example for social distancing, they chose a non-face-to-face signing ceremony.

The center is scheduled to open in December 2024. It will house senior leisure welfare facilities such as a senior resting place and senior job placement support organizations.

Through this business agreement with Bomunsa Temple, Seongbuk-gu secured space for the district-run senior welfare center. The space for the Bomun-dong district-run senior welfare center is a 1412m2 building owned by Bomunsa Temple. Seongbuk-gu will use it free of charge for 20 years. Seongbuk-gu will be responsible for remodeling the space, installing, managing, and operating the welfare center.

On the occasion of the business agreement for the establishment of the Bomun-dong district-run senior welfare center, Seongbuk-gu and Bomunsa Temple promised to build a diverse ‘government-religion cooperation public project win-win model’ and expand customized senior welfare services for the local community.

Chief Monk Intae of Bomunsa Temple stated, “As Bomunsa Temple, a traditional temple representing Seongbuk-gu, it is natural to strive for positive changes in the community,” adding, “We will work more closely with Seongbuk-gu to improve the welfare of local seniors, including the district-run senior welfare center.”

Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, “Seongbuk-gu has continuously prepared to expand welfare facilities for seniors and quality jobs in the Bomun area for an aging society and balanced regional development,” adding, “Through the Bomun district-run senior welfare center, we have taken a step closer to realizing this goal.”
