[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] CJ Freshway, a food ingredient distribution and group catering specialist under CJ Group, announced on the 8th that it will carry out the 'Green Journey' campaign this year as part of its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) activities.
The 'Green Journey' campaign is an environmental protection initiative aimed at reducing carbon emissions and waste in group catering and cafe outlets. Its main components include ▲ optimizing food ingredient delivery ▲ operating low-carbon and vegan menus ▲ reducing the use of disposable products ▲ and minimizing leftover food.
The first step of the campaign is to improve delivery efficiency to reduce the carbon footprint. This involves optimizing the number of food ingredient deliveries to group catering outlets to lower carbon emissions generated during distribution. Outlets that meet conditions such as operational scale and food ingredient storage capacity are eligible to participate.
In June, CJ Freshway optimized the delivery frequency for 38 group catering outlets, reducing delivery distances by 1,553 km compared to before, resulting in a reduction of 540 kg of carbon dioxide emissions. This amount of carbon is equivalent to what approximately 82 thirty-year-old pine trees absorb in one year.
Additionally, CJ Freshway plans to expand sales of low-carbon and vegan menus, which do not use meat or dairy products, at group catering and cafe outlets. The company will also focus on waste reduction activities, including reducing disposable product usage and leftover food.
A CJ Freshway representative stated, “Using the Green Journey campaign as an opportunity, we plan to gradually expand carbon emission and waste reduction activities across the entire food service business, from food ingredient distribution to group catering, to provide better services.” They added, “As a company creating a healthy food culture, we will continue to actively practice environmental protection activities linked to our business and take the lead in ESG management.”
