원본보기 아이콘[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] Jeonnam Mokpo City, which sought a "proactive change," has unveiled its major municipal projects for the second half of this year.
Having succeeded in attracting the Korea Island Promotion Agency, the city's biggest goal in the first half of the year, it plans to focus on the smooth progress of projects aimed for completion within the year.
In July, the Mokpo Marine Fantasy Show (hereinafter Fantasy Show) will be held at Peace Square. The city plans to present a three-dimensional and lively spectacle by combining the famous Dancing Sea Fountain of Peace Square, the marine stage (490㎡) performances, and a fireworks show. The opening event, coinciding with the remodeling of Peace Square and the completion of the marine stage on the 23rd, will kick off the show, which will be held every Saturday evening from 8 to 10 PM until November, showcasing the exciting side of Mokpo at Peace Square.
The second phase of the Gohado Marine Deck is also scheduled to open at the end of July. The second phase (length 738m, width 2m) extends in the opposite direction of the first phase (1.08km, width 1.8m), which was opened in November 2019. Construction of the second phase is complete, and safety facilities and signboards are currently being installed. With the total length extended to 1.82km, users of the marine deck can enjoy views of the Gohado coastal cliffs, Yudalsan Mountain, and Mokpo Inner Harbor from more diverse points. Notably, on the second phase, visitors can experience thrills walking on two sections of reinforced glass (length 16m) and explore coastal caves installed in the 1940s by the Japanese to prepare for the Pacific War.
In August, the Yudalsan Wood Culture Experience Center (hereinafter Experience Center) will open. The Experience Center was created by demolishing the orchid exhibition greenhouse next to Dalseong Parking Lot on Yudalsan Mountain. It has a total floor area of 856㎡, with one basement floor and two above-ground floors, consisting of exhibition rooms, a wooden playground for toddlers, and a wooden play experience area. Construction is in its final stages, and the city plans to hold an opening ceremony on August 5.
In September, a pet playground will open in Bujusan Neighborhood Park. Covering an area of 3,500㎡, it can accommodate about 250 pets. The playground, currently under construction, will include play facilities for pets and convenience facilities for their caretakers. The city plans to open it by the end of September.
In October, from the 7th to the 10th, a four-day event titled "Mokpo, from the Beginning of Modern Korean Literature to the Cradle of Future Literature" will be held throughout Mokpo, including the Mokpo Literature Museum, the old downtown area, and Peace Square. The city decided to hold the literature expo by leveraging Mokpo's close ties with major figures in Korean literary history such as Kim Woojin, Park Hwaseong, Cha Beomseok, and Kim Hyun.
The city is preparing for the event by organizing advisory and executive committees and is currently conducting a challenge event called "Bustling Literature Expo" to spread excitement about the event.
In December, the Oedaldo Marine Natural Garden will be completed. As part of the 2019 Fishing Village New Deal 300 project, the marine natural garden utilizes the unique landscapes and resources of Oedaldo to make the garden a landmark. Artificial landscape facilities will be removed, and a nature-friendly landscape will be created to link with the international Slow City image.
