[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, sent a congratulatory message on the 1st to Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party, stating that "the slanders of hostile forces are the death throes," thereby strengthening the North Korea-China solidarity amid the U.S.-China conflict structure.

In the congratulatory message, General Secretary Kim stated, "Nothing can block the path of the Chinese people, united around Comrade General Secretary (Xi Jinping), moving vigorously toward new victories."

He emphasized, "The two parties and two countries (North Korea and China), despite the complex and multifaceted international situation, firmly hold the belief in the legitimacy of the socialist and communist cause, boldly overcoming the difficulties and hardships encountered with the power of combative friendship and blood ties, and are striving toward a brighter future."

He also stated, "In accordance with the demands of the times and the aspirations of the peoples of the two countries, we will elevate and develop North Korea-China friendship to a new strategic height and vigorously promote socialist construction to advance energetically despite changes in the situation and challenges."

By mentioning "complex and multifaceted international situation," "difficulties," "hardships," and "changes in the situation and challenges," it is interpreted that he emphasized strengthening the ties between North Korea and China amid the U.S.-China conflict structure.

General Secretary Kim also stressed the friendship between the two countries, saying, "The Workers' Party of Korea and the Communist Party of China are true comrades and comrades-in-arms who have shared life and death in the long struggle against imperialism and for building socialism, weaving a proud history of friendship," and "Our party and people are pleased as if it were our own achievement with all the successes being made in China's socialist construction."

He also praised China for "successfully overcoming the global health crisis and greatly enhancing the country's comprehensive strength and international standing," highlighting China's excellence in overcoming the COVID-19 crisis, and emphasized, "We firmly support the cause of the Communist Party of China to safeguard the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as world peace," indirectly supporting China amid territorial disputes with neighboring countries.

Along with the congratulatory message, General Secretary Kim sent a congratulatory wreath bearing his name to Chairman Xi through Ri Ryong-nam, North Korean ambassador to China.

North Korea, which has not responded to the U.S. demand for dialogue, appears to be closely aligning with China ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party (July 1) and the 60th anniversary of the North Korea-China Friendship and Cooperation Treaty (July 11). On May 27, Ambassador Ri and Wang Yi, Chinese Foreign Minister, took commemorative photos together, and on the same day, the ambassadors of both countries wrote articles for the host country's party newspaper.
