[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is conducting a "Visiting Education for Establishing a Proper Waste Disposal Culture" targeting daycare centers, kindergartens, and elementary school students as part of efficient management of the surge in household waste due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
This education aims to raise early awareness of the importance of proper waste separation and reduction of household waste through lessons tailored to the children's level of understanding.
The program started its first session in May and will continue until November, covering a total of 74 sessions across 21 locations, including 16 daycare centers and kindergartens and 5 elementary schools within the district.
Customized education using teaching aids and videos for recycling separation by age group is designed to engage children's interest with easy-to-understand content.
The curriculum includes watching an animation on waste separation, distinguishing between reuse and recycling items, checking separation labels, and hands-on practice with waste models for proper sorting.
Additionally, the class is structured as a participatory activity, where children complete a pledge tree for proper waste separation using stickers and participate in campaign activities.
Meanwhile, the district is making various efforts to raise awareness of environmental protection and promote consensus on recycling separation to encourage practical actions in daily life, including an ice pack reuse project, zero waste campaigns at public offices and entrusted institutions, and zero waste movement initiatives.
Mayor Park Junhee is also actively participating in community campaigns such as the ice pack reduction campaign "Before It's Too Late" and the "Go! Go! Challenge for Plastic Reduction," demonstrating strong commitment to revitalizing recycling and establishing a culture of waste reduction in the community.
Mayor Park Junhee of Gwanak-gu stated, "Through this education, I hope children who will be responsible for the future recognize the importance of proper waste separation and reduction, and that it becomes an opportunity to practice resource circulation in daily life." He added, "We will continue to do our best to create a clean Gwanak and improve the quality of life for residents in a pleasant environment."
