[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Public support for the People Power Party has shown an upward trend, surpassing the 30% mark for the first time since the survey began. The recent party convention, which attracted significant attention as the "Lee Jun-seok phenomenon," is believed to have influenced the rise in party support.
Asia Economy commissioned Win-G Korea Consulting to conduct a public opinion survey from the 12th to the 13th targeting 1,017 voters aged 18 and older nationwide (100% mobile phone virtual numbers, automated response). When asked about the "party you usually support or have even a slight preference for," support for the People Power Party rose to 31.0%, up 2.3 percentage points from the previous survey conducted on the 29th-30th of last month (28.7%). This marks the third consecutive increase following the survey on the 15th-16th of last month (26.7%).
As support for the People Power Party increased, the gap with the leading Democratic Party of Korea (32.8%) narrowed. The gap between the two parties was 2.8 percentage points in the previous survey but shrank to just 1.8 percentage points in this survey, showing a narrow margin.
Support for the People Power Party rose among both men and women, but varied by age group. Compared to the previous survey, support increased among those in their 20s and those aged 50 and above, while it declined among those in their 30s and 40s. Notably, support among those in their 60s increased by 10.1 percentage points.
Comparing support between the two major parties, the Democratic Party had higher support among women at 36.2% compared to 29.3% among men, whereas the People Power Party had relatively higher support among men at 34.4% compared to 27.6% among women. By age, the Democratic Party led in the 30s and 40s age groups, while the People Power Party had higher support among those in their 20s and those aged 50 and above.
