[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, will accept pre-registration for participants of the global lifelong learning international event, the '2021 5th UNESCO International Conference on Learning Cities (ICLC),' from the 14th to August 31st.

ICLC is an international conference where 229 member cities and experts from 64 countries worldwide participate to explore lifelong education cooperation measures, and it is held every two years by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) rotating across continents around the globe.

This year's conference, under the theme "Post-COVID-19 Era, Global Health Education and Crisis Response," will be held from October 27 to 30 at Songdo Convensia in Incheon.

Yeonsu-gu, selected as the host of the 5th ICLC last November, is preparing with residents to elevate the status of lifelong learning in Korea and promote Korea's excellent culture worldwide.

In particular, they are determined to make it the world's largest lifelong learning festival through various linked events such as an education expo, K-Pop concert, and fireworks, with real-time domestic and international broadcasts of the entire event including the opening ceremony.

Those wishing to pre-register for participation can apply through the official website of the 5th ICLC (www.learningcities2021.org).

General participants cannot attend the international conference but can watch it through a metaverse-based online system and also attend other linked and side events.

The Yeonsu-gu UNESCO International Conference Promotion Team is prioritizing vaccination speed and quarantine safety both domestically and internationally, considering the COVID-19 situation, while promoting the international event.

Especially for the K-Pop concert and fireworks festival, where participant concentration is expected, thorough preparations will be made to prevent any safety accidents or quarantine loopholes.

Gonam-seok, Mayor of Yeonsu-gu, stated, "As the government is accelerating the formation of herd immunity against COVID-19 by November, this will be Korea's first international event held at the end of the COVID-19 pandemic," adding, "We will do our best to raise Korea's status and advance as a lifelong learning leader city in the international community."
