Seoul City Selects 21 Winners for '2021 Seoul City Environmental Awards'... Award Ceremony to be Held on the 4th 원본보기 아이콘


[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul City announced on the 4th that it has selected Hyosung TNC as the grand prize winner of the '2021 Seoul Metropolitan Government Environmental Award.' The company received high praise for contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions through the production of recycled fibers made from recycled PET bottles and the launch of eco-friendly products.


Seoul City, marking the 25th anniversary of the Seoul Metropolitan Government Environmental Award this year, selected a total of 21 winners (organizations) including grand prize and excellence awards in five categories: green technology, energy saving, environmental conservation, resource circulation, and urban greening. The award ceremony was held at the Seoul City Hall multipurpose hall with Mayor Oh Se-hoon in attendance.


The excellence awards were given to LG Chem in the green technology category, Hanwha History in the energy saving category, Gwanak-gu Facilities Management Corporation in the environmental conservation category, Hyun Na-yoon in the resource circulation category, and Kwak Jin-sook in the urban greening category.


A total of 15 recipients were selected for the merit awards: 2 in green technology, 3 in energy saving, 4 in environmental conservation, 3 in resource circulation, and 3 in urban greening.


Earlier, from March 22 to April 30, Seoul City received a total of 36 nominations for the environmental award from citizens and autonomous districts. A public evaluation committee composed of 17 experts including environmental and energy specialists, landscaping experts, and journalists reviewed the candidates and selected this year’s award winners.


Mayor Oh Se-hoon of Seoul said, "This year marks the first year of implementing the Paris Climate Agreement, which promises global cooperation to respond to climate change, making practical actions in daily life more important than ever." He added, "Seoul City will continue to actively work together with citizens to become a carbon-neutral city by 2050."
