[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Joohee] A YouTuber in India was arrested by the police on charges of animal abuse after tying his pet dog to helium balloons and sending it into the air.

On the 28th, a video showing Gaurav Sharma (32), a YouTuber living in New Delhi, India, tying his pet dog to several helium balloons and sending it into the air was shared on online communities and social networking services (SNS).

In the video, Sharma counted down "three, two, one," then released the dog tied to the helium balloons, and the dog began to float up along the building wall.

The dog floating in the air was seen struggling its legs several times. The helium balloons rose to the height of the second floor of the building, and a person on the second-floor balcony caught the dog.

According to local media, Sharma uploaded this video to his YouTube channel on the 21st but deleted it after receiving heavy criticism. He explained, "I followed all safety measures. I love my pet." However, he also added, "I hope people do not imitate my actions."

Among netizens who saw this video, criticism poured in such as "How scared the dog must have been," "Most dogs are afraid of heights," and "Did he do that to the dog just to increase subscriber count?"

Meanwhile, the animal welfare organization PFA filed a complaint against Sharma, and the police have arrested him on charges including animal abuse.
