[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] As the United States is making every effort to increase COVID-19 vaccination rates, United Airlines, one of the four major airlines, has launched a campaign encouraging vaccinations by offering free airline tickets.

On the 24th (local time), United Airlines announced through its website that it would hold a special giveaway event called "Vaccination for Air Travel" starting from that day for those who have completed their vaccinations.

To enter, participants must upload a photo of their vaccination card to their United Airlines loyalty program "MileagePlus" account by June 22. Anyone aged 18 or older residing in the United States can participate.

On July 1, five winners will be drawn, each of whom, along with one companion, will enjoy unlimited free flights for one year to any United Airlines destination worldwide.

Additionally, during the month of June, 30 people will be given two round-trip domestic flight tickets each, regardless of destination.

All winners can choose their seat class, including first class.

Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines, said, "The number of air travelers in the U.S. is recovering to pre-COVID-19 levels," adding, "We are doing our best to motivate people to get vaccinated."

He continued, "Thanks to the vaccine, travel is becoming freer, and everyone is looking forward to traveling," and said, "We hope people get vaccinated to reunite with friends and family or enjoy a long-awaited vacation."

Headquartered in Chicago, United Airlines is gradually resuming flight services that were suspended due to COVID-19 and plans to increase 400 flights in July, the peak summer vacation season.

In addition to United Airlines, major U.S. companies are launching various giveaways to encourage COVID-19 vaccinations.

According to ABC News, large retail chain Target is offering a $5 coupon to customers who get vaccinated at CVS pharmacies located within its stores nationwide this month.

In Ohio, after Governor Mike DeWine (Republican) announced a lottery for those who have received at least one vaccine dose, with five winners each receiving $1 million, the number of vaccinations surged.
