[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Moon In) announced on the 24th that it was finally selected for the ‘2021 Drone Demonstration City Construction Project’ contest hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Aviation Safety Technology Institute.
The drone demonstration city project was established to discover drone utilization models suited to regional characteristics and support early commercialization of excellent technologies of companies through demonstration.
In March, Buk-gu formed a consortium with Gwangju City, Gwangju Technopark, and local companies, and proposed ideas to solve problems in frequently flooded areas (Cheomdan Industrial Complex, Yeongsangang Riverside, Yangdong Market), resulting in receiving 1 billion KRW in national funding.
Accordingly, until November, they will conduct demonstrations to build a ‘full-cycle disaster safety platform’ using drones that covers damage prevention, emergency response, and flood recovery.
The main contents include ▲demonstration of patrol missions in frequently flooded areas using airship drones (Korea Smart Drone Co., Ltd.) ▲demonstration of terrain surveying using waterproof drones (Spatial Information Co., Ltd.) ▲demonstration of dispatch and video transmission in disaster risk areas (Muhan Information Technology Co., Ltd.) ▲disaster recovery missions using hydrogen disinfection drones (Hogreen Air Co., Ltd.).
Buk-gu plans to actively support the commercialization of excellent local company technologies and drone models through the drone demonstration city project.
Mayor Moon In of Buk-gu said, “This project is expected to be a good experience for administrative change and fostering new industries by directly applying drone technology to practical work.”
Meanwhile, in February, Buk-gu was designated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport as a drone-special free zone, a drone-exclusive regulatory special zone, covering 10.4㎢ around Cheomdan Industrial Complex, Yeongsangang, Yongjeon and Jiya-dong areas, and plans to start the demonstration project with participating institutions from next month. This demonstration city project will also be conducted in this zone.
