'Many Confirmed Cases on Holiday' 21 Confirmed Cases in Gwangju

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] A large number of COVID-19 cases have occurred in Gwangju, raising alarms for health authorities.

According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 16th, as of 2 p.m. that day, 21 people tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total confirmed cases to 2,620.

All cases are locally transmitted: 2 related to entertainment establishments in the Sangmu district, 12 linked to existing confirmed cases, 1 related to confirmed cases from other cities or provinces, and 6 from voluntary testing due to symptoms.

Cases 2612 and 2616 were confirmed to be related to entertainment establishments in the Sangmu district, and case 2613 was linked to Jeonnam case 1285.

Cases 2600 to 2603 were related to case 2527, whose infection route is unknown; they developed symptoms while in self-quarantine and were tested and confirmed positive.

Five cases?2604, 2610, 2611, 2615, and 2618?were linked to case 2591. The infection route of case 2591, confirmed the previous day, is also under investigation.

Similarly, two cases (2606 and 2607) related to case 2572, whose infection route is unknown, and one case (2620) related to case 2593 were confirmed positive.

Six cases (2605, 2608, 2609, 2614, 2617, and 2619) were confirmed positive following voluntary diagnostic testing after symptoms appeared.

A health authority official stated, “Among the cases confirmed related to existing patients, most were family transmissions where diagnosis was made several days after symptoms appeared. We urge anyone with even mild symptoms to immediately visit a screening clinic for testing.”
