[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Pulmuone, which recently declared itself a leading company in "plant-based oriented foods" and has officially entered the plant-based protein and plant-based meat business, is launching its first plant-based protein HMR (Home Meal Replacement).
On the 13th, Pulmuone Foods announced the release of two types of "Tofu Noodle KIT" (Spicy Ragu Pasta, Grilled Jjajang) that are easy to eat by topping special plant-based sauces on "tofu noodles," noodles made from high-protein tofu.
Last month, Pulmuone declared itself a leading company in plant-based oriented foods and began actively exploring new future food sources. In Korea, the PPM (Plant Protein Meal) division plans to sequentially introduce plant-based protein foods that allow easy consumption of healthy protein. The first product is the Tofu Noodle KIT, which replaces carbohydrates with protein.
The "Tofu Noodle KIT" is a product that adds sauce to the "Tofu Noodles Made for Health," which Pulmuone introduced in May last year, allowing for easy cooking. Consumers can conveniently prepare popular noodle dishes like pasta and jjajangmyeon in just 5 minutes using a pan.
Per serving, the Grilled Jjajang contains 27g of protein (49% of the daily nutritional value), and the Spicy Ragu Pasta contains 24g of protein (44% of the daily nutritional value), making them high-protein foods. On the other hand, carbohydrates are 24g (7% of daily nutritional value) for Grilled Jjajang and 20g (6% of daily nutritional value) for Spicy Ragu Pasta, reducing carbohydrate intake. Both types contain 0g cholesterol.
The Tofu Noodle KIT is a plant-based protein food using plant-based sauces. It uses 100% plant-based ingredients down to the detailed raw materials. The sauce contains 12% high-protein "Tofu Crumble," which enhances the chewing texture instead of meat. Tofu Crumble is made by baking high-protein tofu in an oven, providing a meat-like texture that delivers both taste and nutrition.
The tofu noodles apply a new semi-vacuum packaging. This change was made in response to consumer feedback that the filling water, previously added to maintain the quality of tofu noodles, increased the product weight and was inconvenient for storing large quantities. Pulmuone researched and applied semi-vacuum packaging to the new product after nearly a year of development, ensuring the texture is maintained without filling water and preventing the product from sticking during cooking.
The outer packaging uses a paper box instead of plastic film to minimize plastic use. The product can be conveniently cooked in a microwave. The two types, Tofu Noodle Spicy Ragu Pasta and Grilled Jjajang, are composed of two semi-vacuum packaged tofu noodles and two sauces, making a 2-serving set (individually packaged). The price is 10,900 KRW.
Kim Sori, PM of Pulmuone Foods' PPM (Plant Protein Meal) division, said, "The Tofu Noodle KIT is a plant-based protein product that combines tofu noodles filled with abundant protein and special plant-based sauces, capturing health, taste, and convenience simultaneously. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the global HMR market has rapidly grown, and demand for premium HMR with excellent nutrition and quality is increasing. We plan to lead the market with various plant-based oriented HMR products."
