[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A manager and a section chief-level executive affiliated with the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul have been placed on administrative leave and subjected to personnel measures due to allegations of workplace power abuse.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 2nd that they placed Sergeant A from Gangnam Station on administrative leave and transferred Sergeant B to another police station the previous day.
Sergeant A and Sergeant B had been working as a manager and section chief, respectively, in departments investigating and directing criminal cases since last year and late 2019.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency received intelligence that Sergeant A and Sergeant B abused their power by verbally abusing subordinates and making them pay for meals or drinks, and conducted a fact-finding investigation over several months. Sergeant B is also suspected of harassment, including grabbing and shaking a subordinate’s ear.
A police official stated, "We are investigating the facts regarding the allegations of power abuse that were reported."
