[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] A scandal is expected as it was recently revealed that high school students at a seodang in Hadong, Gyeongnam, committed bizarre torture by forcing a peer to ingest bodily fluids and inserting foreign objects into body parts.

According to the Jinju Branch of Changwon District Prosecutors' Office on the 29th, a 17-year-old high school student A was threatened by two peers living together in a dormitory at a seodang in Hadong in February last year, with the threat that "if you don't drink bodily fluids, you won't be allowed to sleep."

When student A refused, the perpetrators assaulted him by spitting and pressing his neck with their feet, then dragged him to the bathroom and forced him to kneel. It was confirmed that one of them forcibly sprayed bodily fluids on student A and made him ingest it.

They made student A lie face down, gagged his mouth with a sock, applied lotion to his body parts, and inserted items such as lipstick and a toilet brush handle.

They also repeatedly assaulted him by slapping and punching.

Victim A reportedly could not properly testify about these facts during the police investigation due to emotional distress and difficulty regaining composure. The Jinju Branch of Changwon District Prosecutors' Office indicted the two perpetrators in December last year on charges including violation of the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles against Sexual Abuse, and their trial is currently pending.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time that minor students at a seodang have committed bizarre torture. Earlier on the 24th, a post appeared on the Blue House National Petition Board claiming that an elementary school daughter was subjected to torture, threats, and extortion at a seodang located in Jirisan, Hadong.

The petitioner, who identified themselves as the victim’s parent, wrote, "My daughter was routinely beaten in rooms without CCTV, bathrooms, and blanket storage, and was tortured to a shocking degree inside the bathroom," adding, "She was held by the hair and forced to hold her breath until nearly unconscious, and made to drink toilet water."

They continued, "She was stripped and bathed in cold water, made to stand at attention against a cold wall, and continuously sprayed with cold water to cause pain," adding, "If she made painful breathing sounds or noises, the intensity was increased."

They further stated, "The seodang staff pretended not to know the truth despite being aware, and the perpetrators still deny some of the crimes," and appealed, "Please help ensure that the perpetrators and the seodang staff who tried to cover it up are punished."

Previously, the Hadong Office of Education held a school violence review committee and reportedly imposed disciplinary actions on the three perpetrators involved in the incident, including a five-day suspension, written apology, special education for the offenders, and special education for their guardians.

However, the victim’s parents considered these measures by the Hadong Office of Education too lenient and filed a complaint with the police last month. The police are currently investigating the perpetrators on charges including assault.
