Stepfather in his 30s sentenced to prison for habitual sexual assault of young stepdaughter described as 'Inmyeonsusim'

[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] A man in his 30s who repeatedly sexually assaulted his underage stepdaughter over several years has been sentenced to a heavy prison term.

The 11th Criminal Division of Gwangju District Court (Chief Judge Jeong Jiseon) announced on the 22nd that A (37), who was indicted for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (rape within family relations and forcible molestation of a minor under 13), was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

He was also ordered to complete an 80-hour sexual violence treatment program and was banned from employment for 7 years at child and youth-related institutions, welfare facilities for the disabled, and child-related organizations.

The court explained the sentencing rationale, stating, "The victim endured the pain alone while living with A without informing other family members of the abuse, and it is believed that she experienced significant sexual shame and mental suffering over a long period." It added, "Considering that the victim wishes to punish A."

A married again in 2013 and began living with his wife’s daughter, B. In the summer of 2017, when B was 12 years old, A sexually assaulted her. It was found that he repeatedly sexually assaulted B several times until April of last year.

During the crimes, B strongly resisted by shouting "No" and "Don't," but A ignored her refusal and committed the offenses, according to the investigation.
