[Asia Economy Reporter Junhyung Lee] Noroo Paint announced on the 22nd that it has signed an agreement with Corning Inc. of the United States regarding the use of Corning Guardiant, an antiviral and antibacterial additive developed by Corning, and joint marketing. Noroo Paint plans to take the lead in the antiviral paint and coating market using this additive and accelerate the launch of related products.

Corning Guardiant is a paint additive with antiviral properties. It has shown strong sterilization effects even against biofilm viruses that are highly resistant to disinfectants.

Noroo Paint utilized this to develop the COVID-19 antiviral paint "V-Guard." Last month, it confirmed over 99% inactivation effect against the COVID-19 virus through a domestic testing institution.

While competitors' similar products take 6 to 24 hours to inactivate the virus, V-Guard can inactivate it within 30 minutes, according to the company. Additionally, it is the only related product that has been directly tested on the COVID-19 virus and recognized for its effectiveness.

V-Guard effectively inactivates viruses on painted surfaces by stably releasing copper ions within glass ceramic powder. It is being applied mainly in multi-use facilities where safety and hygiene management are especially important. Currently, it has been applied at Lotte World in Jamsil, Seoul, and Yongnam Middle School in Chungnam.

A Noroo Paint official said, "We are pleased to be able to release innovative products through the partnership with Corning," adding, "We plan to expand product development into various fields such as architectural coatings using the Guardiant raw material."
