[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Huawei announced that it has built more than half of the over 140 commercial 5G networks deployed worldwide. It also emphasized that the network experience of LG Uplus, which uses Huawei’s network equipment, is 25% better compared to other companies.

Ryan Ding, Huawei Board Member and President of the Carrier Business Group, made this announcement during his keynote speech titled “5G, Illuminating the Future” at MWC Shanghai 2021 (Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2021) on the 18th.

Ryan Ding stated that last year, Huawei actively supported the stable operation of more than 300 networks deployed in over 170 countries worldwide, enabling telecom operators to provide online services while minimizing business impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on this, telecom operators worldwide provided wireless broadband services to more than 22 million new households, allowing individuals to work from home smoothly and receive remote medical services.

5G is developing faster than market expectations. More than 140 commercial 5G networks have already been deployed in 59 countries. Ryan Ding explained that over 50% of these commercial networks were built by Huawei.

The ecosystem is also maturing rapidly. In China, over 68% of smartphones shipped last year were 5G phones. Currently, more than 200 5G modules and 5G industrial devices are in use, demonstrating the extensive application of 5G across various industries.

Huawei is participating in the deployment of 5G networks for telecom operators worldwide. According to last year’s reports from market research firms such as HIS, P3, OpenSignal, and Meqias, Huawei was involved in the deployment of 5G commercial networks in cities including Seoul, Amsterdam, Madrid, Zurich, Hong Kong, and Riyadh.

Ryan Ding said, “Excellent network experience is the foundation of business success, and these six cities are just some of the many cases where Huawei has cooperated with telecom operators so far,” citing LG Uplus as a representative example.

Ding explained, “South Korea’s LG Uplus achieves higher frequency efficiency and a network experience that is more than 25% better than other operators through Huawei’s 64T64R AAU and multi-antenna algorithms.” He also stated, “Swiss telecom operator Sunrise built blade AAUs operable on both sub-3G and C-band, reducing the site acquisition time for 5G services from 24 months to 6 months.”

5G is becoming a core element in production processes across various industries. Ryan Ding forecasted that 5G industrial applications will be widely used this year. Currently, 5G applications have been deployed in more than 20 industries including manufacturing, healthcare, education, and logistics.

Ding said, “In China, 5G industrial applications are used in various industries such as mining, steel, and manufacturing, enhancing productivity and creating value in safety, intelligence, and efficiency,” adding, “5G is already enriching our daily lives, and this year will be the inaugural year for 5G industrial applications.” He continued, “Telecom operators need new capabilities related to network planning, construction, maintenance, optimization, and operation.”

Huawei will participate in MWC Shanghai 2021, hosted by GSMA, held in Shanghai, China from the 22nd to the 25th, conducting both online and offline exhibitions and presentations on various topics including 5G.
