Gwangju Dong-gu, Pursuing Environmental Maintenance Project for Pureungil Park

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 15th that it will invest 100 million KRW in the Pureungil Park, a representative urban resting space in Gwangju, to promote an environmental maintenance project for creating an eco-friendly space.

Pureungil Park is a rail trail-type park created on the abandoned Gyeongjeon Line railway site, serving as a convenient walking course for Gwangju citizens, with many people using it. The Dong-gu section extends 3.75 km from Gwangju Station to Namgwangju Market.

In particular, this environmental maintenance project plans to establish a space plan considering existing site conditions and user patterns through expert design services, create a safe park environment by inspecting and replacing facilities within the park, reflect various planting techniques considering seasonal landscape elements, and create a pleasant and beautiful park environment guaranteed for safety by incorporating local residents' opinions.

The main maintenance contents include dismantling abandoned stream fountains and creating flower beds within the park, repairing drainage facilities, and supplementing trees and herbaceous plants in green areas, aiming to restore the original linear appearance of Pureungil Park and develop a green park where nature and the city breathe, connected to the surrounding living area.

Mayor Im Taek of Dong-gu said, "Please look forward to the new appearance of Pureungil Park, which will transform into a comfortable resting and healing space close to residents in the city through this maintenance," adding, "We will create a park that is beautiful in all four seasons for many residents feeling fatigue from daily life stresses such as COVID-19."
