TIPA, Focused Support on 'Technology and Items' Developed Through Industry-Academia-Research Collaboration

Announcement of the '2021 Sanhakyeon Collaboration R&D Project'

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] The government will focus support on technologies or items with high commercialization potential developed jointly by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and universities or research institutions.

The Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for SMEs (TIPA, President Lee Jae-hong) announced that it is recruiting SMEs and universities/research institutions to support industry-academia-research collaboration R&D for small and venture businesses.

TIPA issued the '2021 Industry-Academia-Research Collabo R&D Project Announcement' on the 28th of last month and will recruit SMEs and universities/research institutions to participate in the project from February 15 to March 15.

The Industry-Academia-Research Collabo R&D project is divided into two programs: industry-academia cooperation projects (Phase 1 preliminary research, Phase 2 commercialization R&D) and industry-research cooperation projects (Phase 1 preliminary research, Phase 2 commercialization R&D). It supports collaborative R&D by utilizing experts and research infrastructure from universities or research institutions for SMEs that lack technology development personnel and equipment.

This year, the project support scale is KRW 21.5 billion (Phase 1 preliminary research KRW 7.2 billion, Phase 2 commercialization R&D KRW 14.3 billion) for 290 projects, supporting up to 80% of the total project cost (government contribution + institution's research and development expenses).

In Phase 1 (preliminary research), reliability between SMEs and joint development institutions (universities, research institutions) is secured, and the technical feasibility, marketability, and business potential of technology development ideas are verified. Subsequently, in Phase 2 (commercialization R&D), focused support is provided for items with high technology development and commercialization success potential.

Detailed information regarding project participation can be found through the SME Technology Development Project Integrated Management System (www.smtech.go.kr).
