[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) announced on the 4th that the 'Social Value Support Center,' the first of its kind nationwide to help residents solve local community problems on their own, plans to promote various projects.
The 'Seoro 西路 Connection Social Value Support Center' has been steadily carrying out projects since its opening in September last year.
Notably, it signed business agreements with SKT Western Marketing Headquarters, Kkeullim, Gwangju Social Innovation Platform, and Seo-gu Senior Club to promote the 'Kkeullim Handcart Advertising Support Project.'
This project provides lightweight handcarts with advertisements attached free of charge to elderly people collecting recyclables and pays a portion of the monthly advertising revenue to the seniors. It supports five seniors active in the Sangmu district.
One senior participating in the project said, "Compared to the previous handcart, it is lighter and more visible, allowing for safer operation," and added, "Although it may be a small amount to some, it is a great help in my daily life, and I am grateful."
The center plans to continue promoting various projects this year as well.
Designating this year as the first year to establish a foundation for creating social value, it is preparing various education and programs such as 'Our Neighborhood Networking,' 'Seoro 西路 Connection College,' 'Climate Crisis Response Living Lab,' and 'Youth UP One-Day Class' to spread awareness and strengthen capabilities related to social value.
Seo Daeseok, Mayor of Seo-gu, said, "In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, social value, which seeks solutions to social problems through community solidarity, is becoming increasingly important," and added, "We will strive harder so that the center can serve as a platform where residents who contemplate the realization of social value gather to freely share their thoughts and experience the growth of social value together."
The Social Value Support Center, spanning from basement level 1 to the 3rd floor above ground, houses the Village Community Comprehensive Support Center, Seo-gu Volunteer Center, and Goods Sharing Center. In addition, it is equipped with various shared spaces such as a community hall, shared kitchen, and meeting rooms.
