[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Shin Jeong-hoon, a member of the National Assembly from the Democratic Party of Korea (Jeonnam Naju·Hwasun), stated on the 1st, “It is urgent to discuss a loss compensation system where the state institutionally compensates self-employed individuals who suffered losses due to business restrictions and prohibitions caused by COVID-19, and to prepare measures for places that fall into administrative blind spots and thus do not receive support.”
On the 31st of last month, Assemblyman Shin Jeong-hoon held a ‘Small Business Owners Meeting to Overcome the COVID-19 Crisis’ at the Democratic Party of Korea Naju·Hwasun Regional Committee office, listening to specific damage cases by industry caused by the prolonged COVID-19 situation and field opinions related to government business loss compensation.
The meeting was attended by Assemblyman Shin Jeong-hoon, Kim Young-deok, Chairperson of Naju City Council, Kim Gwan-yong, Head of Naju City Food Service Industry Branch, Kim Jun-jeong, President of Naju Merchants Association, Nam Yong-sik, President of Naju Innovation City Revitalization Promotion Economic Association, Lee Jong-beom, President of Naju City Small Business Association, and Choi Doo-hyun, Head of the Korean Association of Certified Realtors Naju Branch.
The attendees raised demands including ▲interest support on loans for self-employed individuals who receive rent support or purchase buildings for business ▲support for livelihood workers in industries considered underground such as karaoke rooms and massage parlors ▲support for businesses that closed due to worsening management ▲visiting administrative service support for small business owners conducting business activities ▲free provision of food waste collection chips ▲limiting fines related to parking enforcement and advertising banners.
Assemblyman Shin Jeong-hoon said, “Through close discussions and cooperation with the government, local governments, and financial institutions, I will actively work on policy alternatives to discover a disaster support system tailored to local conditions so that practical support can be provided.”
