"Until the day of the funeral, I have to come (to the funeral hall) every day. Because of COVID-19, we can't properly host, so thank you for coming like this."


Jung Mong-jun, chairman of the Asan Foundation, visited the funeral hall of the late Jung Sang-young, Honorary Chairman of KCC, once again on the 1st. On the second day of the funeral, around 11 a.m., Chairman Jung arrived at Seoul Asan Medical Center, where the funeral hall was set up, and said this to the press. Chairman Jung, the deceased’s nephew, had also visited the funeral hall first among the Hyundai family the day before. It is said that the deceased cherished Chairman Jung dearly during his lifetime.


In accordance with the COVID-19 situation and the deceased’s wish for a simple funeral, condolences from close relatives and prominent figures from politics and business who had a special relationship with the deceased have been continuing.


The deceased’s three sons?Jung Mong-jin, Chairman of KCC; Jung Mong-ik, Chairman of KCC Glass; and Jung Mong-yeol, Chairman of KCC Construction?briefly stopped by their home at dawn to change clothes and have been keeping vigil at the funeral hall since 6 a.m. on the second day.

Access to the funeral hall on the second floor was restricted for the press and others due to the COVID-19 situation and the family’s wishes. Although KCC politely declined floral tributes, the walls of the second-floor funeral hall were filled with wreaths sent by prominent figures from politics and business.


At around 10:20 a.m., the first mourner to arrive at the funeral hall was Choi Hyun-man, Senior Vice Chairman of Mirae Asset Daewoo, who said, "He was someone I respected greatly, so I feel very saddened," and added, "KCC is the pioneer of the domestic building materials industry, and the successors working hard to manage the company must be the deceased’s wish."


High-ranking executives from Hyundai Motor Group are scheduled to visit the funeral hall to pay their respects later in the morning. KCC stated, "Considering recent circumstances, we have conveyed a message to business groups to politely decline condolences."


The day before, a procession of condolences from the broader Hyundai family continued. Chairman Jung, the deceased’s nephew, was the first from the Hyundai family to visit the funeral hall. Chairman Jung and his son, Jung Ki-sun, Vice President of Hyundai Heavy Industries, arrived at the funeral hall around 10 a.m., shortly after it was set up. Chairman Jung stayed at the funeral hall for about two and a half hours, left around 12:30 p.m., and returned at 5 p.m.


Jung Eui-sun, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, visited the funeral hall of his great-uncle around 1:50 p.m. the day before, accompanied by his wife, Jung Ji-sun; his eldest sister, Jung Sung-i, Advisor at Innocean; and his brother-in-law, Sun Doo-hoon, Chairman of Daejeon Sun Hospital. The funeral procession is scheduled for 9 a.m. on the 3rd.
