[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] eBay Korea's cross-border platform Gmarket Global Shop (English Shop and Chinese Shop) is participating as a representative e-commerce platform in the '2021 Korea Grand Sale' and will hold an 'Online Shopping Special Exhibition' until February 21.

The 'Korea Grand Sale' is an annual shopping culture tourism festival for foreigners hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, offering various tourism contents and shopping benefits to foreigners visiting Korea. This year, it is conducted mainly online to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Gmarket Global Shop, a leading online K-shopping platform, offers popular domestic products such as K-Beauty, K-Fashion, K-Food, and K-Pop at discounts of up to 70%. It also runs prize events providing Korean tourism vouchers and duty-free shop gift certificates usable by tourists visiting Korea after COVID-19. Discount coupons of 20% and 15% (up to 5,000 KRW) are available for purchases over 20,000 KRW and 50,000 KRW respectively, and a 3,000 KRW discount coupon is provided for purchases over 15,000 KRW.

Gmarket Global Shop has newly produced and released a YouTube advertisement featuring the K-pop idol group B.O.Y. The message conveys that although visiting Korea has become difficult due to COVID-19, various Korean tourism pleasures can be experienced online through the shopping application. Gmarket Global Shop plans to continue encouraging on-tact shopping by collaborating with government agencies, domestic brands, and K-pop artists.

Youngho Na, Head of Strategy Business Division at eBay Korea, said, "In the situation where domestic shopping tourism demand has shrunk more than ever due to the COVID-19 crisis, e-commerce platforms like Gmarket Global Shop can become another hub continuing the new Korean wave." He added, "We will continuously promote attractive K-products and K-culture worldwide through collaboration with government agencies, domestic brands, and K-pop artists."

Meanwhile, Gmarket Global Shop operates SNS channels with a total of 9 million followers as Korea's largest cross-border platform. Recently, it has been strengthening communication with fans worldwide through K-culture contents such as web dramas.
