[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Sangju City in Gyeongbuk recently installed carbon heating air benches at bus stops to assist citizens using buses during the winter season and has begun a pilot operation.
According to Sangju City on the 26th, the benches were installed at three locations: Doshin Rich Mart, Sangju Medical Center, and in front of Sangju Police Station.
The carbon heating air bench warms the seat surface while waiting for the bus, helping to overcome the cold. The floor temperature is maintained at 36 to 38 degrees Celsius and operates automatically according to the ambient temperature. Operating hours are from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
It has received favorable reviews, especially since many elderly people use public transportation. Considering the positive response from citizens, the city is reviewing plans for additional installations.
Mayor Kang Young-seok of Sangju said, "Despite the difficult times due to COVID-19, we prioritized installing these benches at bus stops with high usage to enhance the convenience and satisfaction of city bus users."
