[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City announced on the 21st that it will establish and implement a comprehensive plan for the Lunar New Year holiday period to ensure citizen safety and minimize inconveniences during the upcoming holiday.

The city has prepared directions and detailed implementation plans for 29 key tasks across six areas, including ▲resolving citizen inconveniences ▲price stabilization measures ▲support and consolation for marginalized groups ▲creating a frugal and warm holiday atmosphere ▲disaster and accident prevention measures ▲establishing emergency medical care and infectious disease prevention systems ▲transportation and road safety ▲timely disposal of household waste ▲handling other inconveniences ▲and establishing public service discipline, aiming to help citizens have a warm and comfortable Lunar New Year holiday.

During the holiday period from February 11 to 14, a comprehensive situation room will be operated 24 hours a day with 144 emergency duty personnel organized into six sectors. The city will build cooperative systems with related organizations such as the police and fire stations. For sectors directly related to citizens' daily lives, such as hospitals and clinics, designated pharmacies, gas sales businesses, water supply, street lighting, and automobile repair shops, duty assignments will be made during the holiday to alleviate citizen inconveniences.

Looking at the detailed sectors, simultaneous inspections will be conducted on terminals, public restrooms, safety facilities, and other places frequently used by many citizens. To resolve unpaid wages, the city will expedite payments for construction and goods procurement ordered by the city before the holiday to prevent complaints arising from non-payment, with prior guidance and supervision.

Additionally, a price control task force will be formed to thoroughly stabilize prices. Efforts will be made to revitalize the local economy through promotional activities for local agricultural and specialty products for the Lunar New Year. Furthermore, the emergency contact network will be thoroughly organized, and public service discipline will be strictly enforced through public service inspection activities.

In particular, a 24-hour emergency quarantine system related to COVID-19 will be operated without gaps. Considering the dispersal of visitors to ancestral graves and movement restrictions due to social distancing, an online memorial service is being operated. Advance reservations for the columbarium at Gwangyang Municipal Yeongse Park are available until before the Lunar New Year.

Jung Yong-gyun, Director of the General Affairs Division, said, “In these difficult times, we ask everyone to strictly follow quarantine rules such as wearing masks, proper handwashing, and regular ventilation,” adding, “We will concentrate all administrative efforts to ensure that all citizens, including those returning home, have a warm and heartfelt holiday.”
