[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Goyang City in Gyeonggi Province will start its senior job and social activity support projects from February this year.

On the 12th, Goyang City announced, "Among the 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province, the largest scale of 6,074 seniors will work at 12 institutions in Goyang City."

The city has invested over 21 billion won in senior job projects this year, which is a 15.7% increase compared to the previous year.

Earlier, from November 30 to December 22 last year, the city received applications from 10,229 participants for the '2021 Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project.'

By category, 7,956 applied for public interest activity type, 1,205 for social service type, and 1,068 for market type, showing an average competition rate of 2.7 to 1 per project.

An additional 80 participants for the employment referral type, which hires as per company requests, will be recruited separately, so hiring for 5,994 out of the total 6,074 positions has been completed.

This year's project is divided into public interest activity type available to seniors aged 65 or older receiving basic pension, market type available to seniors not receiving basic pension, and social service type with working hours of 60 hours or more per month.

The public interest activity type increased by 1,135 people and the social service type by over 140 compared to last year, but the market type will only maintain profit-generating businesses such as food manufacturing and sales, and store operation.

Especially as a new project this year, 736 seniors will engage in traffic guidance activities in school zones for children commuting to and from 138 elementary schools and kindergartens.

A Goyang City senior welfare department official said, "We will continue to discover senior job projects that respond to the demands and needs of the local community, moving beyond projects conducted with subsidies."
