[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] Twelve additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in correctional facilities where cluster infections continue to occur.


As of the morning of the 12th, the Ministry of Justice announced that two staff members at Sangju Detention Center and seven inmates tested positive following a full inspection of inmates at Seoul Eastern Detention Center the previous day. Separately, three individuals who were released from Seoul Eastern Detention Center also tested positive and were counted as additional confirmed cases. As a result, the total cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in correctional facilities nationwide reached 1,238.


The Ministry of Justice also added that 85 inmates at Gyeongbuk Northern Second Prison tested negative and were released from quarantine. All 250 inmates transferred from Seoul Eastern Detention Center to Daegu Prison tested negative in diagnostic tests.
